LDTM hosts the Global Technology and Information Search (GTIS) Benchmarking Activity

Summary: Chung-Ang University (CAU), particularly its Laboratory of Dairy Technology and Microbiology at the Da Vinci Campus in Anseong, South Korea, played a pivotal role in the Global Technology and Information Search (GTIS) initiative held from November 27 to December 2, 2023. This initiative aimed to explore the potential of Lactobacillus species as probiotics in aquaculture, focusing on enhancing fish gut health, improving disease resistance, and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices.
Under the leadership of Professor Geun-Bae Kim, CAU contributed its expertise in isolating and characterizing novel probiotic bacteria. The university's advanced facilities and research capabilities facilitated in-depth studies into the functional properties of lactic acid bacteria, particularly their role in modulating the gut microbiota of aquatic organisms. This collaboration provided valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms by which Lactobacillus species can benefit aquaculture species, thereby supporting the development of more effective and sustainable aquafeeds.
The partnership between CAU, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), and other institutions exemplifies the importance of international collaboration in advancing aquaculture research.
